Exercise: The Choice of Life

By Stephen, 1 June, 2015

For the topic of rape and abortion,  what is your standard conversational approach?

Briefly write down a summary of how you talk about abortion:

  • What do you say to Pro-Choice liberals?
  • What do you say to Pro-Life conservatives?

Afterwards, listen to this:

Does your normal message integrate or fail to integrate with the speaker's life-experiences? Is our messaging empowering to people across a wide range of choices? Are we able to integrate a voice like this one, or do we hold it entirely outside our message and purposefully frame around it? Who are we not talking to? Can you imagine a conversation with the speaker that was real and connected, where you could express your views without sidestepping his?

Separately: Why do you think that voices like this are rare on the Pro-Life side as well?
